Description:
99 Spring Street is a landmark apartment building situated at the edge of the Melbourne’s city grid, adjacent Parliament House and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The outlook spans 180 degrees from the leafy greens of the eastern suburbs to the dense grain of the CBD. The existing floor plate, intact from the original 1970’s plan, was characterised by a series of dividing walls that segregated the living spaces and obstructed the potential for a broad panoramic experience of the city.
The renovation comprised a subtle reworking of the existing program to better serve the clients’ aspirations. While wet area locations remained fixed due to proximity to risers, existing walls between the kitchen, living and dining were removed to create a fluid, causal relationship. Walls along the north façade were removed to reveal the striking aspect along Lt. Collins St that emphasise being at the edge of the city grid.
